Rats and mice are commonly known for carrying all kinds of diseases including the hantavirus. Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) is spread by cotton rats, deer mice and white-footed mouse. Salmonella is also common for rats and mice to carry when visiting sewers, rotting garbage, cesspools and similar sites where Salmonella bacteria thrives.
